These "toast" shops have been popping up lately in the subways. While their product is almost certainly not very good for you, it does make a tasty and filling (occasional) snack when you're in a rush!

Okay... first, I have to confess that I love butter. But who doesn't love that smooth, rich buttery flavor? Anyway, moving on...

We found this little place after basically watching a little steel box unfold in the subway over a couple of days. At first, we thought it was 붕어빵 (a lovely wintertime treat), but were surprised to find it was more like "toast" (토스트), the "omelet sandwich" you can sometimes find on the street.

Specifically, it is an interesting creation of buttered, toasted bread with sweet or savory fillings, so it can be a dessert, snack, or even a quick lunch on the go. After observing for a bit, we saw that they take sandwich bread, add fillings, then press it in a fish-shaped mold.

On this visit we ordered the 피자 and 소세지 varieties. (Aside from the savory ones, we also enjoyed the 단호박 version.)

If you tell them you're going to eat it right away, they will warm it up for you. You can also order them by the box and microwave at home before eating.

The sausage toast is Aaron's favorite at the moment. It is kind of like a hot dog (with mustard and ketchup) in a buttered toast sandwich. Sounds odd, but don't dismiss it before trying it!

The pizza version features diced sausage, onions, ham and bell peppers, with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. Although this is just made to feel like a pizza, I thought this was all right as a meal. It's a bit sweet but worth a try. On another visit, we had a 불고기 version that was even better; however, it was out of stock the last two times we stopped by.

  • Food: 3/5 - It's no gourmet meal, but has good flavor and value.
  • Service: 3/5 - Not much to go on here, but they are always ready to greet you with smile.
  • Atmosphere: 3/5 - Conveniently located, the kiosk appears well-kept and clean (although to be fair, it is still pretty new).
